Creativity is powerful because it encourages innovation, expression, and authenticity. On July 4, 2021, I attended Soulful Sundays open mic in Los Angeles, California. Soulful Sundays is hosted by SoulfulofNoise, an organization whose mission is to support the independent artists of today. According to their website, their ‘Soul’ intent is to spread the euphoria that only great soulful music can provide.
This open mic is a place where black rappers, singers, poets and musicians in LA can showcase their talents and be celebrated. It’s a place where black creatives can gain inspiration and have a good time. The live band was amazing and there were performances by talented independent artists such as @Plugintolove, @thekaeking, and @ajmcqueen.
Personally, this event gave me a breath of fresh air and made me feel at home. There is something about being surrounded by artistic and creative people that lights up my spirit. During @ajmcqueen’s performance he said, “We got to wake up off of passion. Like what are you excited about today for tomorrow?”

I am in love with writing and it is what excites me for the future. Having the ability to highlight the positive aspects of black culture through my writing means everything to me. SoulfulofNoise, thank you for hosting an open mic that made me feel alive and inspired.
Soulful Sundays takes place the first Sunday of each month at Comfort LA DTLA at 2 p.m. If you are in the LA area and looking to catch a vibe and a spark of creativity, I recommend attending this event!
